Overview

CPC is a comprehensive classification of all goods and services. It covers products that are output of economic activities, including transportable goods, non-transportable goods, and services. CPC serves as the international standard for product-level detail alongside ISIC for industry-level detail.

CPC Ver.2.1 was published in 2015. It maintains the structure of CPC Ver.2 with minor modifications. CPC Ver.3 is under development.

Structure

5-level hierarchy: Sections (1-digit, 10), Divisions (2-digit, 71), Groups (3-digit, 300+), Classes (4-digit, 1200+), Subclasses (5-digit, 2800+).

Sections 0–4: transportable goods (agriculture, minerals, manufacturing). Sections 5–9: services (construction, trade, transport, business services, community services).

Relationship to 生産物分類

生産物分類 2024 (Japan Product Classification) is the Japanese counterpart to CPC. Both serve as product detail layers linked to their respective industry classifications (JSIC and ISIC).

生産物分類 uses a simpler 2-level hierarchy (category → item) compared to CPC's 5 levels. Both include cross-references to industry codes (JSIC codes for Japan, ISIC codes for CPC).
